The Fresh Brothers Story
The Fresh Brothers story starts in Chicago with the Goldberg brothers, Adam and Scott. Scott opened the Miller Pizza Company in 1985, embracing Chicago-style pizza. With the goal of taking Chicago to the coast, brother Adam and his wife Debbie opened the first Fresh Brothers in SoCal in 2008. They combined their family recipes with fresh ingredients, putting a California twist on traditional pizza. This old-school pizza with upgraded nutrition was a hit, and Fresh Brothers only grew from there.Learn More
Why We Love Hawthorne
Fresh Brothers loves providing delicious pizza (amongst many other tasty and healthy menu options) in a lot of places, but one of our favorites is Hawthorne. There's nothing quite like serving fresh ingredients with a smile to the community that makes us smile right back! Located in Los Angeles County, this popular suburban area has plenty of culture and things to do. It's ideally located, surrounded by a number of established cities as well as numerous unincorporated neighborhoods. With so many influences from surrounding places, it's no surprise that Hawthorne is a melting pot of culture and influence. It's located in close proximity to the Los Angeles International Airport, and many visitors choose to stay in Hawthorne when stopping by the city. It's conveniently surrounded by all of the biggest freeways, allowing for travel to any sector of Los Angeles with ease, and even connected to the Downtown portion of Los Angeles by train. Hawthorne actively preserves its diverse culture and heritage, which can be seen through the Hawthorne Arts Complex which warehouses 25 private art studios, galleries, and common spaces. Additionally, they have many murals and mosaic tiles around the town that demonstrate love for the community. The town is surprisingly scenic, with many palm trees, open spaces, and interesting architectural places. Residents in the Hawthorne area are especially helpful, always lending a helping hand around their community with service projects and volunteering opportunities. Hawthorne's location means that nearby tourist spots are only a short drive away, including the beach!
Nestled in southwestern Los Angeles County is the city of Hawthorne. This city has an area of just over 6.1 square miles (or 16 square kilometers), and is densely populated at 14.148 people per square mile! Home to over 85,000 residents, Hawthorne is also surrounded by several unincorporated communities, such as Lennox, Inglewood, Athens, Gardena, and El Camino Village. It's also bordered by the cities of Lawndale, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Del Air, and even Westchester — putting it in the middle of everything! The Century Freeway runs along its border. Like much of the Los Angeles basin area, Hawthorne experiences year-round Mediterranean climate. Summers are dry, and the subtropical climate provides 263 days of sunshine. Because of its proximity to the ocean, temperatures are a tad more moderate compared to the inland locations east of Hawthorne.
Unlike the rest of Los Angeles, which was originally founded as part of Spanish homesteads and later turned into residential space, Hawthorne has a more simple history. Hawthorne is a relatively young city compared to the areas surrounding it, founded just at the turn of the 20th century. In 1905, the Hawthorne Improvement Company, owned by two men named B. L. Harding and H. D. Lombard, founded the city. B. L. Harding's daughter shared a birthday with famous New England author Nathaniel Hawthorne, and thus the city was named after Nathaniel. The name represents an ode to him as well as a tribute to Harding's daughter. Originally over 80 acres of barley fields and eucalyptus trees, Hawthorne has certainly come far to become the residential area it now is
Fresh Brothers has long served a large portion of Los Angeles, but certain cities hold special places in our hearts. While there's certainly a lot of things to love about the city of Hawthorne, the people who reside here and make this community so vibrant are Fresh Brothers' favorite part. This community-centric neighborhood is often participating in local community events and get-togethers, whether they be annual, seasonal, or even weekly. The people who live here have a strong passion for helping others, often getting involved through community service and volunteering opportunities. Additionally, the people of Hawthorne are very eco friendly. Residents in this area love local parks, as well as recreational activities. There's many efforts to improve the community and recognize areas for sustainability.
Hawthorne is known for local eateries, and there's plenty to check out no matter what your palate is. Popular spots are Chips, Eureka, House, Matisse, and Mi California. There are cute, local beer breweries to check out in Hawthorne if you're of drinking age. They include Common Space, Flights, and LA Ale Works. Outside of Hawthorne, there's plenty to do in the greater city of Los Angeles. Hawthorne's central location gives residents and visitors alike easy access to many nearby attractions, including the ever-popular Automobile Driving Museum, AdventurePlex Playground, Dockweiler Beach, The Strand, and Polliwog Park are only a short drive away. Local beach sites offer bonfires, plane watching, outdoor sports, cycling, beachfront eateries, bird watching, and even a monument dedicated to the Beach Boys!
Fresh Brothers believes in feel-good pizza, and that means going beyond the pie. In addition to providing out neighborhoods with nutritious, all-natural pizza, we also play an active role in the community. Each year, we donate thousands of pizzas, helping to raise money for schools, veterans, and nonprofits. Serving up happiness, one slice at a time.Learn More
