The Fresh Brothers Story
The Fresh Brothers story starts in Chicago with the Goldberg brothers, Adam and Scott. Scott opened the Miller Pizza Company in 1985, embracing Chicago-style pizza. With the goal of taking Chicago to the coast, brother Adam and his wife Debbie opened the first Fresh Brothers in SoCal in 2008. They combined their family recipes with fresh ingredients, putting a California twist on traditional pizza. This old-school pizza with upgraded nutrition was a hit, and Fresh Brothers only grew from there.Learn More
Why We Love Hermosa Beach
Serving beachside cities is always a delight for Fresh Brothers. There's nothing we love more than providing a healthy and delicious meal to those just stepping off of a sandy beach! Fresh Brothers especially loves Hermosa Beach, and it's easy to see why. With seaside vibes and welcoming culture, we're more than proud to serve this area and all those who live within it. Despite its lower population, this beachfront town is bustling. The weather is phenomenal, and residents take advantage of it often by surfing, playing, and relaxing in the sun. Hermosa Beach is perfect for those looking to enjoy a casual beach town with exciting nightlife. Pier Avenue, the "downtown" sector of Hermosa, features partying and bars, like Tower 12, Baja Sharkeez, and Hennessey's Tavern, among many other top-tier eateries and clubs. There's plenty to visit for entertainment, too. Locals and visitors alike enjoy spending at night at the Comedy and Magic Club or at the Lighthouse Cafe jazz venue. The city often hosts annual traveling art galleries as well, which are a must-see if you happen to be in town when one passes through. Hermosa gathers as a community often, giving this town a close-knit feel. You'll catch every neighbor attending events like the Hermosa Beach Sunset Concert series, Hermosa Beach Film Festival, the Arts and Crafts Festival every Memorial and Labor Day, and the weekly Farmers' Markets. On a casual day, residents can be found at the skatepark, Hermosa's numerous outdoor sport facilities, and, of course, at the beach.
Looking for the ideal beach town? You've found it! Hermosa Beach is a shore-facing town on the smaller side, with a population of right around 20,000. It's located in the South Bay region of the Greater Los Angeles area. Along with Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach, Hermosa makes up one of three iconic "Beach Cities." Being in SoCal, residents here enjoy a mild, average temperature of 70 degrees most of the year. While warm, the coastal location keeps Hermosa from overheating as westerly sea breezes cause temperatures to lower even during the summer months. Located on the bay, there is the occasional morning fog or haze, often called "June Gloom." However, this layer burns off quickly, giving Hermosa its 325 days of sunshine a year.
Hermosa Beach's name comes from the Spanish word meaning “beautiful." It was originally part of 1784 Rancho San Pedro land grant, but was later transferred to become part of a ten-mile ocean frontage called Rancho Sausal Redondo. Like many of its neighboring cities, Hermosa began as a section of rolling hills meant for agriculture. It was composed of mostly barley fields, plus huge herds of sheep, corrals, horses, and farm implements. As the 1900s approached, investors realized the residential potential of Hermosa and began looking into its true development. In 1904, the pier was built 500 feet into the ocean by the Hermosa Beach Land and Water Company, making the area popular amongst fishermen. The town grew with trolleys and railway systems, and was an incorporated city by 1907.
With so many reasons to love Hermosa Beach, you think it'd be hard to pick our favorite. However, you'd be mistaken! While Fresh Brothers adores all of Hermosa, none of those reasons top the people that live there. It's because of this community that Hermosa is so lively and welcoming. Everyone who resides in Hermosa is active, setting aside time daily for sunbathing, beach volleyball, surfing, paddle-boarding, and cycling. There's plenty of parks and recreation for casual outdoor activities, and the close community gathers often to celebrate their town through seasonal and annual events. Hermosa also surprisingly has a rich history in punk rock due to notable bands, like The Descendents, living or rehearsing there over the years, and is therefore artsy and cultured.
One of the reasons Hermosa Beach has grown to its current size (and continues to expand) is because of its numerous attractions. There's always plenty to do in Hermosa, whether you prefer getting outside or exploring the town from its many establishments. The Strand is a pathway on the beach that runs from Santa Monica to Torrance, and is used for jogging and cycling. An active bunch, the city of Hermosa throws its own Ironman Triathlon, hosts an International Surf Festival, and is home to the Hennessey Paddle Board Festival. Locals love Pier Avenue for its shopping, eating, and partying. There's lots of arts and culture, including the Arts and Crafts Festival, Hermosa Beach Film Festival, Shockboxx Art Gallery, and the Comedy and Magic Club.
Fresh Brothers believes in feel-good pizza, and that means going beyond the pie. In addition to providing out neighborhoods with nutritious, all-natural pizza, we also play an active role in the community. Each year, we donate thousands of pizzas, helping to raise money for schools, veterans, and nonprofits. Serving up happiness, one slice at a time.Learn More
