Why We Love Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a beachfront city, situated on the coastline of the Santa Monica Bay in western Los Angeles County. Because of its tourist destinations and seemingly-perfect climate, it boomed with resorts, hotels, and jobs throughout the 20th century. Every day in Santa Monica seems to be filled with an early fog that burns off by the afternoon, lending it the perfect temperature to hit the Santa Monica State Beach. Visitors often lounge along the ocean, tanning, hanging out at the Annenberg Community Beach House, and walking along Palisades Park.
Santa Monica is known for being a hub for all that is LA, including restaurants, shopping, entertainment, and activities. Most notable amongst these attractions is Third Street Promenade, an outdoor, pedestrian-only shopping strip in the Downtown District. Shopping can also be found at Montana Avenue on the north side and Main Street on the south end. Another fun stop is the Santa Monica Pier, which sports the iconic landmark entrance. On the wooden pier, visitors can find a full family amusement park called Pacific Park, complete with a solar paneled Ferris Wheel, carousel, conservation-based aquarium, arcade, pubs, and restaurants. In addition, the end of the pier is popular for sea-life watching and angler fishing. During the summer months, the pier becomes a venue for concerts, movies, and more. This iconic location has been the site of a number of movies and television bits, as well as a hallmark of the oceanside Los Angeles lifestyle.
