The Fresh Brothers Story
The Fresh Brothers story starts in Chicago with the Goldberg brothers, Adam and Scott. Scott opened the Miller Pizza Company in 1985, embracing Chicago-style pizza. With the goal of taking Chicago to the coast, brother Adam and his wife Debbie opened the first Fresh Brothers in SoCal in 2008. They combined their family recipes with fresh ingredients, putting a California twist on traditional pizza. This old-school pizza with upgraded nutrition was a hit, and Fresh Brothers only grew from there.Learn More
Why We Love West Los Angeles
West Los Angeles is a part of Los Angeles city, and is composed of a number of neighborhoods. To some, West Los Angeles is a grouping of many neighborhoods, among which are Sawtelle, Century City, Beverlywood, and others. To others, West Los Angeles is seen as a unique neighborhood totally of its own. Though its borders are generally unclear, one thing's for sure: Fresh Brothers loves serving all of the residents around here. The land was once purely for farming, used solely to grow beans in large fields and fruit in orchards. However, West Los Angeles has come a long way from its agricultural roots. It's now largely residential and mostly suburban, and Fresh Brothers adores West Los Angeles' family-oriented atmosphere. You can find many top-notch, high-scoring schools around here. In addition to being family-friendly, this area is incredibly diverse. Local communities will gather together often for celebrations and festivals, both in honor of their city and their individual cultures. If you're looking for a can't-miss event, we recommend stopping by during the Annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Monterey Park. During the Cherry Blossom Festival, residents from many different backgrounds will put on cultural performances and engage in multi-ethnic festivities. There are also local artisans that sell crafts, goods, and traditional foods during the yearly event. When there's no festival, residents can be found shopping or hanging around Sawtelle Boulevard or the Westside Pavillion. This mostly walkable area is trendy without being smug, and it's impossible not to love it.
Welcome to the Westside! West Los Angeles is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: the westward portion of the city of Los Angeles. It includes many neighborhoods and a few unincorporated areas within its geographic area, including Sawtelle, Rancho Park, Beverlywood, Cheviot Hills, Castle Heights, Century City, and many more. It is loosely considered the area divided by the Interstate 405 freeway, surrounding the popular highway to either side. This interesting conglomerate of namely residential areas has borders that are often contested in the Los Angeles Times' Mapping Los Angeles Project, though it's generally agreed upon that it ends far before the beach. This area is widely seen as a suburb despite its location in the middle of the city, which can be attributed to its residential areas.
West Los Angeles has deep origins. It was once entirely agricultural and used for growing crops like beans. This history still has its remnants, and they can be seen in the orderly street grid pattern that makes up West L.A.'s neighborhoods. In the 1920s, Pico Boulevard was paved, allowing for better transportation. Fields and orchards were subdivided amongst developers, and without pre-existing townships, everything was formatted to be regularly spaced blocks. The West Los Angeles Community Plan recognized the need for borders and order amongst the neighborhoods, and ultimately aided in finalizing the geographical edges. Eventually, the area became mainly residential. With such a homey feel, small businesses also flourished. Homes and small brick-and-mortar shops combined with plenty of outdoor space eventually gave us the West L.A. we have today!
There's a lot to love about West Los Angeles and the Westside in general, which is why Fresh Brothers is happy to have set up shop in so many places in this general area. While we like West L.A. for quite a few reasons, none of them top our true favorite: the people who give this group of neighborhoods so much character. The residents of West Los Angeles are a diverse group, due in part to the sheer size of the area. Many are commuters that work in Culver or Century City, but this young community often shops local due to the presence of small businesses. The area is walkable, so people are eco-friendly and outdoorsy. The community is often described as hip and kind.
West Los Angeles is where many visitors stopping by L.A. stay, and the area is home to numerous hotels. Because of this tourist culture combined with suburbia and lifelong residents, there's more than enough things to do and visit around here. The Stoner Recreation Center is popular among nearby residents. It features a waterpark, BBQ pits, lighted outdoor sports fields, a full gymnasium, and picnic tables — a particularly alluring daytime activity during the summers filled with perfect weather. Similarly, there's plenty of parks to visit, including Cheviot Hills Park, Rancho Park Golf Course, and Reynier Park. For shopping around, we recommend Westside Pavillion and Sawtelle Boulevard's iconic food spots. The convenient location of West L.A. allows people to easily access popular attractions like LACMA and The Getty as well.
Fresh Brothers believes in feel-good pizza, and that means going beyond the pie. In addition to providing out neighborhoods with nutritious, all-natural pizza, we also play an active role in the community. Each year, we donate thousands of pizzas, helping to raise money for schools, veterans, and nonprofits. Serving up happiness, one slice at a time.Learn More
