The Fresh Brothers Story
The Fresh Brothers story starts in Chicago with the Goldberg brothers, Adam and Scott. Scott opened the Miller Pizza Company in 1985, embracing Chicago-style pizza. With the goal of taking Chicago to the coast, brother Adam and his wife Debbie opened the first Fresh Brothers in SoCal in 2008. They combined their family recipes with fresh ingredients, putting a California twist on traditional pizza. This old-school pizza with upgraded nutrition was a hit, and Fresh Brothers only grew from there.Learn More
Why We Love Westchester
Los Angeles expat or lifelong resident, we've all stopped by the city of Westchester at one point in our lives, whether we know it or not. This iconic neighborhood gives Fresh Brothers the opportunity to serve this unique corner of Los Angeles, which hosts a community like no other. Our in-airport terminal location gives us the chance to serve up healthy, delicious goodness for locals and visitors alike, making an impression as they make a pit stop. We're also proud to feed the residents of Westchester every day as they go about their daily lives in this friendly area. Westchester is a family-oriented community, and it's home to many elementary schools plus the Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnet Schools for that reason. In addition, this area is home to a number of higher education centers, including Loyola Marymount University, Otis College of Art and Design, and the West Los Angeles Campus of Pepperdine University. Westchester offers plenty to do, and there's always something fun to do at the Westchester Recreation Center. It has an auditorium, barbecue pits, children's play areas, a community room, and outdoor, lighted baseball diamonds, basketball courts, tennis courts, and football and soccer fields. Every year, Westchester hosts their Annual Westchester Arts and Music Block Party, which is a must-see for anyone stopping by. Nearby, local beaches give Westchester residents the opportunity to get outside, with Dockweiler, El Segundo, and Manhattan Beach's beaches closest. There's also The Strand that runs between Westchester's closest seaside locations to the rest along the coast, which people run and cycle along!
Situated on the Westside region of Los Angeles County, mere miles from the ocean, is the community of Westchester. This smaller neighborhood has a notably small population density, at just 3,652 people per square mile as of the 2010 census. Wondering why it's so low? It's because Westchester is home to more than just homes — it also houses the Los Angeles International Airport! The area is a mix of both urban and suburban, often described as having a small-town feeling in a suburban oasis. LAX and Westchester are close to the beach, meaning that the area experiences Los Angeles' signature weather but is cooled by sea breezes off of the Pacific Ocean. Also nearby are the aquatic attractions of Ballona Freshwater Marsh, Dockweiler Beach, and the marinas.
Westchester’s history didn’t begin with one of the largest airports in the world — though that is what it's known for now. Before the industrial booms, the Westchester area was primarily agricultural. The 20th century had the area populated with large, family-owned farms growing crops such as wheat, barley, and lima beans. Rapid aerospace development changed the area starting near Mines Field, which was the old name for what's now known as LAX. Beginning in the 1930s, developers started converting farmland into landing strips and residential neighborhoods. Within 20 years, Westchester's old airport was declared a municipal airfield (LAX!), and the industry encouraged more residential development. The letter "X" in LAX actually stands for nothing; the letter was added as the number of airports grew and designations expanded to three letters.
Fresh Brothers has provided pizza to many, but some locations stand out as some of our favorites — one of them certainly being Westchester. Serving up delicious, fresh meals in the Westchester area is what we do best, and one encounter with the residents here will show you why we love it so much! Westchester is a family-oriented area, and beyond its notable airport, it's almost entirely residential. The people here are outgoing and always more than welcoming. Of course, they have to be; passersby and pit-stoppers from LAX are always coming and going from this suburban neighborhood, and the residents are happy to make them feel at home. Meet anyone from this neighborhood and you’re sure to see that they’re friendly, talkative, and kind.
With such a central location, Westchester is a prime area for hitting up every notable Los Angeles attraction while also stopping by smaller, more local spots for a residential L.A. experience. LAX and the surrounding Westchester area are known for being homey, and that simply means that it boasts top-tier cafes, restaurants, and bars with L.A. charm. Westchester is sometimes considered a "tech hub" because of its proximity to other tech-oriented centers, like Venice and Playa Vista. Visiting this area allows for sightseeing some interesting architecture in the Googie-style, as created by Eldon Davis. It can be viewed at Pann's restaurant, which has a tilted roof and wrap-around glass windows, as well as within the Theme Building at LAX, which resembles a flying saucer.
Fresh Brothers believes in feel-good pizza, and that means going beyond the pie. In addition to providing out neighborhoods with nutritious, all-natural pizza, we also play an active role in the community. Each year, we donate thousands of pizzas, helping to raise money for schools, veterans, and nonprofits. Serving up happiness, one slice at a time.Learn More
